ICE Certification: Training, Experience, Credibility

Training, Experience, and Credibility – all are necessary to encourage culturally-appropriate music in missions. That’s where ICE comes in – with motivation to get practical training in ethnomusicology, grow skillful with those tools in your experience on the mission field, and document your progress with a credible certification that opens further doors for you.

These certifications are based on points gained from a variety of activities:
  • You become a Certified Missionary Ethnomusicologist through documenting your past training, practical field experience, and professional involvement with other ethnomusicologists (100 total points required).
  • Or, you can earn the Ethnomusicology Training Specialist certification by demonstrating, in addition, that you have significant teaching, training, and mentoring experience (130 total points required).

With EM Certification, you show you have met the high standards of our Certification Committee, a distinguished panel of ethnomusicologists. These EM professionals are committed to establishing a credible standard for Christian missionary ethnomusicology; those who wish to encourage cultural sensitivity in the arts to support mission outreach. With your permission, we will send press releases of your successful Certification to your mission agency, newspapers, universities, and other organizations you specify.

ICE Certification is all about opening doors.

  • It’s about providing the credibility you need with your mission and with your supporters.
  • It sends a message that you are not simply a self-styled “ethnomusicologist”, but that your training, experience, and professional credibility have been approved by ICE’s committee of EM professionals.
  • It also gives ICE the freedom to recommend you to mission agencies and schools as qualified to teach, mentor, and be included in other ministry opportunities.

The EM Certification Application is a three part process all done online via this web site, as follows:

  • Part 1: the applicant fills out the application online,
  • Part 2: the applicant submits their application fee (by check or online through AuctionPay),
  • Part 3: the applicant then creates and submits a "Documentation of Points" file by email to the Certification Committee at Certification@worldofworship.org.

We hope to see your application soon!
